A Guide to Your Child's First Dental Appointment
First dental visits are important for setting your child up for successful visits in the future, and our doctors understand this at Toronto Lakeshore Dental. We love to see children at our office and we're dedicated to making their appointments fun and upbeat. Here's what you can expect at your child's first visit with your children's dentist in Toronto.
At What Age Should Their First Visit Take Place?
Dr. Joo and Dr. Moore like to see children around their first birthday, or even earlier if parents have any concerns. Starting early helps acclimate your child to our office, the "big chair," and what happens during a typical dental visit. We're also able to make parents aware of any developmental concerns we see early on. Our goal is that they feel comfortable and look forward to coming to their appointments.
What Happens During the First Visit?
When your child first comes in, we spend a lot of time helping them to feel at ease. We'll count their teeth and perform an examination if they feel comfortable with that. As they get older, we'll incorporate a cleaning into their appointment, and we may recommend additional services such as fluoride treatments to build and strengthen their teeth, as well as dental sealants to protect their teeth from tooth decay.
If your child chooses to participate in sports, our doctors can discuss the right protective wear for your child's teeth and mouth. We'll also make you aware of the need for orthodontic treatment, or straightening their teeth, as their permanent teeth begin to arrive.
It is our goal to build a lifelong relationship with your child by making dentistry fun. We'll educate them about the importance of their oral health, while helping them to feel comfortable and at ease at our office. Contact Toronto Lakeshore Dental today to schedule your next appointment.
