Aligning your teeth with Invisalign is exciting, and it can produce excellent results when combined with compliance and proper oral hygiene habits. Keeping your teeth clean and healthy during Invisalign treatment is easy since you can remove your aligners to brush and floss as you usually would. However, did you know that it's important to keep your aligners clean as well? Here are some tips for easy steps you can take to clean your aligners each day.

Rinse With Water

Rinsing your aligners with water is an easy way to keep them clean throughout the day. In fact, you should take them out for meals and rinse them before replacing them. This will also help to keep them moist and avoid cracking.

Brush With Toothpaste

You can brush your aligners before bed at night with a soft brush and toothpaste. Believe it or not, your aligners will build up plaque and bacteria just like your teeth, and a quick brushing at night will help to keep them fresh. It will also promote fresh breath, as plaque buildup can lead to a foul odor in your mouth.

Use Baking Soda

If you notice your aligners are starting to appear yellow, you can use baking soda to clean them and remove any discoloration. Create a paste that consists of half baking soda and half water and brush it around your aligners. Rinse them thoroughly with water and enjoy your results!

Because it's designed to control plaque and bacteria, mouthwash can be used in a pinch to clean and freshen your aligners; however, it's not the best choice for everyday cleaning. Pour it into your aligners and scrub to remove any buildup or odors.
